End of the run

I'll admit it, I'm sort of glad the winter steelhead run is over. Not that I didn't have fun spending hours and hours out on the river, but with my losing record (no fish), I found myself starting to think about how else I could be spending my weekends!

To wrap up the season, here's a photo of Nate with his favorite fish of the year, a beautiful and very feisty wild (as opposed to hatchery) fish that he fought for a good 15-20minutes before landing, snapping a few photos, and releasing back to the river.

And here's a video that Nate took of me on our last afternoon on the river, for your entertainment.

More Steelhead

The steelhead saga continues - since our first trip out to the river over Valentine's Day weekend, we've taken numerous trips back, and the fish keep coming. Over two consecutive weekend trips, Nate, Kelly, and Jack have all now landed hatchery fish, and Nate and Jack have both caught and released wild fish (Nate's on some flies he tied himself- an added bonus). And this, despite Jack's having eaten a banana which was sitting on the shoreline the day he caught both his fish. (Warren, maybe the superstition is reversed when the fish are in fresh water?!). I don't seem to have any luck (or skill?!) with these fish, but I'll give it another go this coming weekend, when Summer and Nolan will make the trek back up from Klamath. Gotta get 'em while the gettin's good....the winter run will likely fizzle out within a few more weeks.

Nate and I have recently invested in an electric smoker, so we can enjoy smoked steelhead into the future.

Here's a video of some of the action.
