Owen is 10 months old today, and mighty proud of his standing abilities these days. He and I spent the last few days on our own, while Nate made a quick trip back to Corvallis (OR) to work on some research he's still involved in from his post-doc at OSU. Nate returned this afternoon, in time to watch the second half of the Uruguay-German 3rd place World Cup match (we were rooting for Uruguay). Owen even has his own commemorative Jabulani official match ball. Here he is, working on his throw-in skills.
I found locally harvested chanterelle mushrooms at the farmers market this morning, so tonight we will feast on a fittingly 'Oregon-inspired' meal. I plan to pan saute the mushrooms with some butter, sage, and shallots and put it all over some pasta with parm. cheese. Is it dinner time yet?
For the third time in as many summers, we will yet again (but hopefully for the last time) make a big cross-country move. This past week, Nate accepted a position as a Research Fish Biologist within the National Marine Fisheries Service at the NOAA Lab in Beaufort, NC. We're coming 'home' to the NC coast! The federal govt. job is a great career opportunity for Nate. (I'll let him explain the details of his new position in a future post). And with our old friends and community still very much intact since we left the area two years ago, we look forward to putting down some roots and settling there. Hopefully those of you who have been keeping our address changes written in pencil can soon convert to pen (we'll rent for the short-term but look to buy our own house soon). Needless to say, the next few weeks are going to be very busy for us. A big move is quite a challenge to pull off with just two adults; throw a baby in the picture and things become even more complicated, but Nate and I are up to the task (I hope). We'll be sure to call on friends and family for any extra assistance we may need. More on our adventures to come....
